The DSV ‘Mermaid Endurer’ is a Norwegian purpose built DP2 dive support and light construction vessel, specially designed for operations in severe weather conditions such as the North Sea. The vessel has high maneuverability and station keeping capabilities and is equipped with a built in 18-man single bell saturation diving system complete with a self-propelled hyperbaric lifeboat. The vessel has a 100-tonne active heave compensated knuckle boom crane and accommodation for 86 personnel. The DSV ‘Mermaid Endurer’ is DNV classed and flies the Panama flag.

AIR START SYSTEM PROBLEM:

The Air Starting System Cylinders on board Mermaid Endurer were badly corroded and pitted from inside due to long service life. It was also required to undergo Hydro Testing to confirm quality and integrity of the Air Receiver Cylinders. It was required to recoat the Air Receiver Cylinders and Hydro Test it at 45Bar Pressure under witness of Third Party Inspector. While Mermaid Endurer was at dry docks in Abu Dhabi, It was decided to take up this work.

Mermaid Office contacted Rams International FZE for possible services to their Air Starting System Cylinders.

AIR START SYSTEM SOLUTION:

The Air Starting System Cylinders were delivered to Rams International FZE for Services like internal & external cleaning with abrasive blasting, removal of old coating. Recoating for internal & external surfaces as per Industry standards.

Arrangement for Hydro Testing. The Operational pressure of the Air Starting System Cylinders was 30 Bar which means the Hydro Testing was to be done at 45 Bar minimum for period of 60 Minutes.
The arrangements were done. The cylinders were filled with water and then the Hydro Testing was done at 50 Bar pressure for 60 Minutes. The Hydro Test was witnessed by Bureau Veritas surveyor.

After this service the Air Starting System Cylinders was delivered back to Mermaid Endurer and the Mermaid Endurer was commissioned with out any hick ups.
